A 1200MW wind farm has been given development approval by the Queensland Government.
Forest Wind Farm, a joint venture of Siemens and Clean Sight, will be one of the largest grid-connected wind farms in the southern hemisphere.
The $2b project will comprise 226 turbines, giving it the capacity to supply nearly half a million homes with electricity.
The farm will be built on a pine plantation between Maryborough and Gympie.
Construction could begin as early as the end of this year, with operations starting in late 2023.
The project is expected to create nearly 450 jobs during construction and 50 permanent jobs during operation.
Businesses and suppliers can register their interest in the project at forestwind.com.au.
Expressions of interest will be sent out over the next month.
