LYNAS Corporation has been awarded Major Project Status by the Australian Government to establish a new rare earths processing plant in WA.
The Lynas Kalgoorlie plant will undertake cracking and leaching of rare earth concentrate from the Mt Weld rare earths mine, which is also located in WA’s goldfields region.
Construction is expected to begin in 2021, with operations starting in 2023.
The processing plant will create up to 500 jobs during construction and increase Lynas’ Goldfields workforce to more than 200 people.
The project also received Lead Agency status by the WA Government in December.
Lynas has started the procurement process for long lead time items only.
Procurement for other items and services will commence once planning is complete.
Businesses and suppliers can register their interest in the project at lynascorp.com.
