Issue 1: Construction of Rockingham waste-to-energy plant

ACCIONA has started the construction of its second waste-to-energy plant in WA.

The East Rockingham Resource Recovery Facility is expected to process around 300,000t per annum of waste, preventing more than 300,000t of CO2 from entering the atmosphere.

The plant will have the capacity to generate 29MW of renewable electricity, enough to power more than 36,000 homes.

The Clean Energy Finance Corporation (CEFC) committed $57.5m and the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) provided $18mgrant funding to the project.

The $511mproject is in the Rockingham Industrial Zone, 40km south of Perth.

The waste-to-energy plant is expected to create 300 jobs during construction and 50 permanent jobs during operation.

This is ACCIONA’s second project of this kind in Perth, with another waste-to-energy plant being built in Kwinana.
